Career Awareness

Teacher Externship

The Mayo Clinic Teacher Externship is a continuing education graduate credit course for secondary career educators, health occupations educators and counselors. The healthcare industry realizes that many students considering possible careers in health care are poorly informed of the vast career opportunities available. This program will present educators with an opportunity to advance their knowledge of healthcare careers and position them as ambassadors to carry this information to the students they work with on a daily basis.

The enrolled educators and counselors will first complete an orientation in early June. This orientation session reviews the program's requirements, assignments and answers questions. To complete the assignments, educators and counselors will spend 40 hours at Mayo Clinic observing, interviewing and learning about health care professions. The experience will take place during the summer months and must be completed by the time school starts.

Educators interested in the program can e-mail to inquire about the status and availability.
