Mayo Clinic Health System (MCHS) – Eau Claire, WI

The Project SEARCH High School Transition Program is a unique 9 month school-to-work program that takes place entirely at the workplace. Student interns participate in employment-related instruction and are assigned internships in up to three departments within Mayo Clinic Health System.

The program provides real-life work experience combined with training in employability and independent living skills to help young adults with intellectual disabilities make successful transitions from school to productive adult life.

The goal of Project SEARCH is competitive, integrated employment for each student intern.

Project SEARCH is a partnership between Mayo Clinic Health System, Eau Claire Area School District, Division of Vocational Rehabilitation, L.E. Phillips Career Development Center, ContinuUs – Managed Care Organization, The Management Group – IRIS, and DHS – Wisconsin Dept. of Health Services.

Program Description:

  • One academic year
  • Up to 12 students in their final year of educational programming
  • Hours approximately 8:00 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
  • Experience in three 10 week unpaid internships
  • Gain employability and specific work skills
  • Customized job search assistance for each intern
  • Outcome of employment

 Basic Eligibility Requirements:

  • Age 18 or older
  • Completion of high school credits necessary for graduation, in last year of high school services and accepting diploma at the end of the school year
  • Meets eligibility requirements for Division of Vocational Rehabilitation services
  • Able to pass background check and MCHS requirements
  • Immunizations are current
  • Desire and plan to work in competitive, integrated employment at the conclusion of the program
