Nurse Practitioner

 Daily Tasks
A Nurse Practitioner diagnoses and treats illnesses, prescribes medications, and administers physical exams and preventive care. Also obtains medical histories, provides immunizations, and manages chronic diseases such as diabetes and heart disease. Nurse practitioners specialize in providing individualized, all-encompassing care.
Nurse practitioners need to have compassion, leadership skills, self-confidence and analytical skills; excellent communication abilities and interpersonal skills are also essential. Must have decision-making and problem-solving skills, and possess a base knowledge of math and science.
 Work Setting
Work either directly with patients within the hospital and clinical healthcare settings, or in an education or administrative setting with no direct patient care.
 Work Hours
Clinical and administrative positions typically have a more routine work schedule of Monday- Friday. A hospital setting position usually requires varying shifts of days, evenings and weekends.
Must have a Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree in nursing.
Must have a current Minnesota registered nurse license and pass a national certification exam.

College prep, business, computer applications, food and nutrition, English composition, second language, health sciences, advanced sciences (biology and chemistry), anatomy/physiology, and psychology
